Our local area

Bassenthwaite is a small village not far from Bassenthwaite Lake, under the shadow of the Skiddaw massif. Although it is largely an agricultural community, with two farms within the village itself, it contains many elements of the archetypal English village including a village pub, a green, complete with football goals, a primary school, church and a stream, with its own puddle duck family, running through it.

The pub, the Sun Inn, is a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike, serving good quality pub food every day.

From the house you can walk up onto the fells and be high above the village within 15 minutes.

There is a bus stop just opposite the green along from the house , with regular buses going to both Keswick and Cockermouth.

The local area offers so much to do on its doorstep, including the Lakes Wildlife Park, the lakes, a tasting session at the The Lakes Distillery, a gentle stroll along the newly rebuilt Keswick railway path, one of the miles without stiles routes across the county. You can go osprey or red squirrel spotting at Dodds wood, or play with the family at Mirehouse. You’ll always find something amazing to do here, before you even think of venturing further afield to explore more of the northern lakes.
